Our Story

We have been lifelong friends, both graduating with degrees in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

After college, life led us down separate paths, each full and rewarding in its own way.

Yet, 30 years later, we’ve found ourselves returning to a dream we shared as undergrads—starting a wellness retreat for adults.

Get to know us...

Our inspiration dates back to the 1993 film Indian Summer, where childhood camp friends reunite years later at their childhood summer camp. The idea of getting people back to nature, allowing them to reconnect with themselves and others, resonated deeply with us. Though we lived states apart, we always stayed connected. In the summer of 2016, Becky visited Krista for two weeks in the Northwoods of Wisconsin where Krista lived at the time, where we found ourselves reminiscing about that long-held vision.

One afternoon, while on a walk through the woods in Krista’s neighborhood, we stumbled upon a house selling a tandem bike by the mailbox. Without hesitation, we knew we had to buy it. For $40 each, we rode our new bike back home, laughing and dreaming.

It was then that the name of our business was born—Tandem Wellness.

The tandem bike became a metaphor for our work as behavior change facilitators. Just like the person in the front seat of the bike steers, our retreat participants are in control of their own journeys. Meanwhile, we offer the support and energy to help them move forward. Together, we fulfill a shared passion for helping others reconnect with nature and themselves, creating something we’ve dreamed about for decades.
